How to create Abstract Effect using Direct Hard Light

Watch this video to learn how to achieve creative image using direct hard light.

I was an assistant in NYC working with a well known still life photographer doing all kinds of jobs from advertising to annual reports. One day a friend of mine who assisted another photographer showed me a shot they did of a towel on sand with beautiful shells and stones. I asked him where they went on location to do this. To my surprise he said they shot it in the studio! I would have never known it wasn't on location. The light was sunlight sharp and the color vibrant, almost abstract because the shadows were so deep. In this tutorial we explore the uses of hard light. You can see by moving the light and changing the source just how easy it is to get the result you want. This technique can be used in many ways and on different subjects. When you explore this style of lighting you will be amazed at the other possibilities you discover.  The simplicity of using one light source and you DSLR camera on an automatic mode makes it fun and easy.
