Tools and Techniques for Creative Photography eBook Review

Several weeks ago we received Photo Nuts and Shots eBook and were asked to review.  After thoroughly enjoying the book, Robert reviewed it in the video (above), but I would also share some points regarding this resource, it's author and publisher:

I immediately appreciated how the information was organized, as for me a good layout and structure are especially important as I rely on it to remain focused (which with my short attention span is not an easy thing to do). 

About the Author:

The eBook was written by a very talented and knowledgeable photographer Neil Creek. Neil not only creates beautiful flawless images but also shares his knowledge of photography in a unique way.

Photographs:

All photographs in the eBook are taken by the author. I highlight this fact because at LMS we strongly believe that photography educators should teach what they know and have done themselves (hence “learn my shot”).  Neil does exactly that – explains what he learned, experienced and mastered.

I was particularly delighted to read Neil’s take on the “body stance” – positioning your body and gripping the camera to achieve the sharpest possible shot.  I, personally, being a tripod devotee, suffer from over-excitement when I shoot hand-held.  I indulge myself in capturing the moment, framing the shot, communicating to my model and creating a special vibe, however, I often completely forget to focus on how my own body is positioned and how I am handling the camera.  As a result, I hit my head against the wall at the time when I review the images of the shoot and notice that some potentially remarkable shots have gone soft due to camera shake, and the reason for self-punishment comes not because the shot went soft but because the mistake could have been easily avoided.  Photo Nuts and Shots outlines  how to take a sharp photo every time.

As you know, most of our tutorials at LMS are practical step-by-step techniques, as only a limited amount of information could be included in a 5 minute video.   We are often asked in comments and emails to elaborate on details that are the foundations for how the creative images are made. We feel that Photo Nuts and Shots fills in all gaps.
